Thank you both for the explanation.@Timo: this message doesn't go way even after a successful login; Dovecot always displays it when it starts, even after /var/lib/dovecot being deleted. I count it as a bug although a minor one.
Anyway, not something serious, as Dovecot works really great. Athan
