The underlying storage is based on lvm. So we can take a daily snapshot on the passive server, mount them readonly and have no load impact on the active machine during the backuptime. Maildata etc. is synced via rsync to a small storagesystem in a seperate datacenter over a dedicated 1Gbit dark fiber link. Works very well for us and is within our budget.
