I'm afraid, the SWT dependency is necessary, because we want to have a common 
GUI for Saros/Eclipse and Saros/IntelliJ. For this, we (indirectly) need the 
SWT libraries (located in a separate source folder: 
de.fu_berlin.inf.dpp.swt_plugin).
You might have noticed that there was some discussion on how to embed SWT on 
the mailing list recently [1]. 
As a result, since this very recent commit [c5ccc8], it should be easier to 
emded SWT.
I added Holger to this feature request, and he might be able to answer more 
specific questions from you.
