I'm probably not familiar with the Linksys router you use, but chances are in the configuration panel it provides the ability to serve as a web-proxy (and not simply a gateway). The difference being that as a proxy it directly places requests within itself using it's own "state" as that necessary when contacting either remote site - which can cause problems for sites that rely on direct connections to manage state (certain browser tags, session-cookies and IP address). Windows Update suggests you disable any firewalls you use compltely - but MS is crazy.
