I think that'd be a nice feature. Anyone against?

I'm not sure... I usually use NSIS to fire off shell scripts (vbs/js) when I
use it, but I can't think of a way off-hand to collect and represent a
'list'.

Developing a custom installer would take too much time from DQSD
development, IMO.
NSIS works OK, and is free, but I see that building more dynamic installers
is a bit difficult. My preference would be to ship DQSD with a set of
packages, so that dqsd.exe only installs core searches, and then there's a
separate installer for each search category. Then people can just pick out
the parts they want. Sure, the overhead of installing is greater (multiple
downloads, etc)... It's a hard choice...
