Might be worth having some kind of nesting, where you cat, say, 10 searches into a string, then join that '10 searches' string onto the end of a main one.
I have seen hints that there is supposed to be a way of using a char array rather than a string, which then allows you to pre-allocate storage, but I've never tracked it down fully.
