The code looks like this:

I think it used to work like this in 3.1.8 as well, but I'll need to check on that.
A CSS overhaul for the calendar sounds good - I'm for.
Can't comment on the expanded People and Places, I don't know how that works.

I think we should change/remove some of the css for the calendar to set a background color instead of the toolbar graphic.. it inherits the background graphic from the toolbar.. It looks kinda funky on this machine running the silver theme..
