Can't you just add it to your localaliases file instead of adding it back into the distro?

Sure, but are you sure it's necessary? I use DQSD as
a calculator all day
long without =...

Try typing

        (4+3)*(2+2)
or
        pow(e, pi/2)

right into DQSD.
