I hope I can explain it... Let's see... One of the problems with using the IE-governed mechanisms to open new windows (createPopup, et al) is that IE security gets in the way, and shows the yellow bar in XP SP2.

By building our own popup window mechanism, we can control the security settings for the window with very high granularity, like I managed to do for the new deskbar.

Tell me about it! It was hard for me to grasp when I browsed through it after three months! :-)

There are some bugs in the explorer deskband hosting stuff requiring unusual workarounds, but they seem to be in place well enough to work at the moment.

I think the code is well factored enough to allow some division of responsibility, or so I hope...
