it really sounds like it isn't a DQSD problem, especially since DQSD doesn't
really have anything to do with how your system clock behaves.

so i have an idea.  i'm thinking you might want to reboot, start up DQSD and
close your system clock (if this is how you want it) and then right click on
a blank space on your desktop and save your active desktop (or update your
active desktop) and then reboot again.

sometimes changes like this get lost if explorer.exe crashes which happens a
lot in w98 in general.
...a stab in the dark.
