Yeah, JavaScript, like many other languages, doesn't allow variable/type
names beginning with a digit.
I'm no JS-head, but I think you can use getElementByName instead;

        document.mysearchf.getElementByName("0").value = "value";

But I'd try a jsref search on that to be sure :)
