OOC: This is one of my favourite stories, and I htink one of my best
because it was symbolic and a turning point in Shyne's life at the time.

>Shyne sat on the river bank with a small pile of pebbles on her lap. Each
>one represented the men who had touched her life.
>She picked up one and rubbed the smooth brown pebble between her fingers.
>"This one is for Blake," She said. "Who taught me to fight and whose name
>I
>wear after my own, in place of the father I never had."
>She raised the pebble to her lips, then tossed it slowly into the river, it
>landed with a soft plop and the current took it downstream.
>Her fingers closed next over a pebble with a red tinge to its colour.
>"This is for Zosh, who reminded me, in his sadness, of Blake," she said.
>"A
>vampire helped him lose his way."
>She gave the pebble a sad smile and cast it after the first.
>Shyne ran her hand over the pile of pebbles, sorting them, and drew out
>another one, small, speckled.
>"This one is for Jinnai, whose love I wanted," she said. "He was unable to
>give it."
>She caressed the pebble gently in her hand a moment, almost regretfully,
>then tossed it into the water, and watched it roll away.
>Her hand found a shiny black pebble next, she watched the light glint off
>the surface.
>"This one is for Sephyr, whose friendship I tried to earn," she said. "He
>is possessed by a demon and tried to kill me."
>She threw the pebble far into the current, with a silent wish for Sephyr's
>salvation.
>Two pebbles left, Shyne looked at them.
>She picked them up and ran them through her hands, almost lovingly.
>One was pure white, small, smooth. The other was grey, the edges a little
>rough.
>She lifted the white pebble and looked at it, turning it in her fingers.
>"This one is for Durandal, cool and tortured, the dragon lord, who gave me
>a
>pendant which showed me I was becoming part of his heart."
>She picked up the grey pebble, rubbing the rough edges with her thumb.
>"This is for Christof, open and strong, the lone wolf, who gave me a wolf
>carved with his own hands and told me he loved me."
>Shyne looked at the river, watching it roll and flow, she raised both
>pebbles to her lips, brushing first one and then the other with a soft
>kiss.
> Then drawing back her hand, she cast one pebble into the water and
>watched
>it join the others, rolling with the current. She looked at the pebble
>still in her hand, unable to part with it, she put it in her pocket...
