To the esteemed members of the Regency Council,

Sirs, it has recently come to my attention that a great injustice has been
done to the citizens of the Isles of Myst. One of your citizens, the
so-called writer, Sly Hacker has hurled insults upon us I feel must be
addressed.

Allow me to introduce myself, I am Duke Reginald Lorthington, warden of
lands north of Mysthaven. I do not speak for our Queen as I write this, but
merely of the outrage that both the good people of the Isles and I are
feeling. While the attacks against my person are both untruthful and
unwarranted, I, being as your Sly Hacker put it, a well known dignitary on
the Isle have become quite used to slanderous accounts by those jealous of
my position. Perhaps if your Hacker had bothered to uncover any actual
information about me, this person would find that not only is my tax rate
the lowest in all the Isles, but I often allow local children of schooling
age to visit and use my stables. I suppose since these are not the
sensational untruths the Rumor Mill has become famed for printing, these
facts would have been quickly swept under the rug.

And while it is true I am a bachelor and do enjoy the company of women, I
take offense to the term Baron of Sin. I especially object to the notion
that young women are smuggled out of Drache for my own use. This suggests
not only kidnapping, which I assure you I would never partake in, but also
that there are no pretties in the Isles of Myst and therefore one must go
to Drache to find them? Sirs, the women of our Isle cry out for justice. I
am not a lecherous beast at this worthless editorial insinuates, I am a man
of honor, who merely has not found the right woman yet.

I can also assure you the explosion last night was caused by a simple
misfire during a routine cannon check. The cannon had been badly in need of
repair and the ship itself simply had too much gunpowder on board, thus
causing the explosion. It was not, as your Hacker so eloquently put it, the
harem had broken loose and shoved enough gunpowder up the Duke's butt to
send him to the moon!!

Finally Sirs, the people of Myst take great offense to the Rumor Mills
supposition that the Isles of Myst are a hang out of pirates and smugglers
and has had an unsavory reputation for many years. And how dare this
publication attempt to shift the focus of such a horror as the Drachian
plague, by blaming the citizens of the Isles of Myst. The people demand
swift justice Sirs. After all, the self-same publication has openly
supported an insurgent in his attempt to claim the right of self-government?
How can the Regency Council allow such propaganda?

I fully realize this individual and the publication have a long history of
baseless attacks on people within the public eye. I have seen for myself the
disparaging attacks on Father Kylus, an esteemed citizen of Drache, as well
as other various vassals of the King. I do not expect you will be able to
insist upon this knave and miscreant to print a retraction, but I beg of
you, something must be done. The people of Myst feel an apology is needed
and I, for one, am in full agreement. This Sly Hacker is badly in need of a
lesson in manners and the people of Myst will not stand for such insulting
remarks. I sincerely hope for this matter to be dealt with succinctly.

May Paladines light shine upon you all,
Duke Reginald Lorthington
(Seal included)
