Ashlan lay there in the bed, the covers pulled up over her chest, her hand
settled protectively over her still swollen stomach as she watched the summer
winds ruffle the leaves in the trees. She'd nearly done it again .. nearly lost
the child snuggled protectively and trustingly within her womb.
She'd cried after the ranger left, telling her he was sorry for getting her
into this. She'd almost laughed, and would have if she hadn't been so weak she
could barely talk. He'd felt guilty, but like she'd told him .. she would have
gone anyway .. she just would have planned it much more carefully.
Now Kraven was wise to what was happening. And he'd either come after her and
Sephyr to finish them off, or he'd go to ground and they'd never be able to
find him ... and she wasn't sure she was willing to risk her child again. Not
even to rid the world of a demon.
They should have had a plan, more than simply the tag team situation that had
developed, and she should have never tried to fight Kraven physically. But she
had, and the bruising punishment she'd received for her foolishness had nearly
ended her life and her child's.
But she had a goal .. and nothing would stop her from achieving it .. though
she would make sure she'd take a much more .. hidden roll these days. But right
now .. she needed sleep .. a healing rest, she was only sad that this brief
respite from her own personal darkness, would most likely be gone when she
awoke again. Sighing, she closed her eyes, and was soon fast asleep.
