Could you try getting the updated package for man-db?[1][2].
for i586+:

You can update it with `qi -u <package.tlz>'. Once upgraded, move the
new config file at /etc:
mv -vf /etc/man_db.conf.new /etc/man_db.conf
Then, (re)create the database: mandb --create
Now you can try the `whatis' command.
