My L-7 has clear meter windows as well. So, back in 2001, I posed the same question to John Kriner. He responded:

"You simply have an earlier model L-7. The first production units did not contain the meter bluing. Afterwards, it was decided to add the bluing so that the L-7 matched the TR-7, R-7, etc. in appearance.

"You can add the bluing if you wish. Visit a lighting center and they probably will sell you a sheet of the blue filter. Just add it in front of the meters."

You've bought yourself a fine amplifier.

Subject: [drakelist] Drake L-7 Amplifier

"Ron Baker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterence to the drakelist gang
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All, I just recently purchased a L-7 amplifier. Now I've had the L-75 for
several years and I was accustom to having the blue filtering in front of
the meter. However the L-7 I purchased does not have the blue filter for
the meters. I did some looking around and all the L-7 pictures I was able
to find also did not have the blue filtering.

This being my first L-7, I naturally assumed the blue filter was similar to
the L-75. So my question is, did Drake make a L-7 amplifier, early or
late versions, which had the blue filtering. Anyone have information on
this either way.
