Yes, I knew that could be the problem. That's why I zeroed out the
drbd metadata (I've even zeroed out the entire disk on all nodes). Is
there some other way I can erase the metadata? I don't want to do some
other odd configuration things (external metadata, etc.).

Is there some metadata somewhere else, beside the device?

Or is there some other problem?
