On the other hand, this has been unchanged in the FAQ for 3 months now
(longer?)... 

Is the mentioned development occurring on a side branch of the DRI cvs tree? 
If so, I haven't been able to spot it. If not, can a branch be created?

I'm still coming up to speed on the dri codebase, but I am also waiting to 
get my hands on some 8500 3D code to help bugfix/develop, however unready
for real use it is.
