AGPMode shouldn't do much for this test. But 1017 fps looks like hardware.
It would be much more useful if you let us know which hardware (yes, r200) but 
CPU, RAM do you have. Then 1017 fps didn't look so fast for a r200 card.

Here I get ~2393 fps (AGPMode 4) on a 1280x1024x24 desktop.

dual Athlon MP 1900+ (but Mesa is single threaded, you know)
1 GB DDR SDRAM 266, CL2
r200, Powered by ATI
2.5.41-ac2
