Indeed, recently I noticed the Radeon driver has some problems with monitor
detection on some OEM cards. It appears that one of MONID pins on the DVI
port of these cards is not properly wired. This results BIOS detection code
always reports a CRT physically connected on the DVI port even there is
none. This can cause some strange behavior of the driver. I'm thinking to
rewrite the detection code and also add an option for user to overwrite the
connected monitors. Meanwhile there are two workarounds assuming you don't
want to modify the source code directly.
1. Connect you CRT to the DVI port.
2. If you have to use the VGA port, you can try to set CloneDisplay option
to 1 or 3. You may also need to use CloneHSync and CloneVRefresh options to
tell the driver with the correct timings of your monitor.
