Hello,

I've been talking with Felix Kühling about a problem I've been observing WRT
DRI, my Radeon, and KDE 3.1, and he suggested that it might be time to submit
a bug report to the devel list, so here I am.

The summary of the problem is that, with accellerated GL enabled, I get a lag
of 2 seconds each time the mouse pointer changed "modes."

First, I'm using KDE 3.1, which provides a shaded, transluescent mouse pointer
for the I-bar and the arrow; the other pointers (the hourglass, the hand, the
resize shapes) are the regular X shapes. Also, I'm running on an ATI Radeon
Mobility M7 (7500), on Gentoo, with the 2.4.20 kernel and the radeon driver
from DRM.

1) The problem only occurs when DRI is enabled; specifically, the problem does
not occur when running X under the fbdev, or when using the DRM Radeon driver
with DRI and GL disabled.

2) The lag is caused by X consuming 100% of the CPU. The pattern is very
uniform; the lag is always the same length, and is always (and only) caused
by the same event. For that two seconds, X completely takes over the
machine, and then releases it nicely. I see no error messages in any log
files (dmesg, syslog, or XFree log).

3) The lag does not occur when switching between pointer shapes of the same
"mode"; IE, switching between two fancy pointers, or between any of the
standard pointers, causes no lag; it is only when switching from fancy to
standard, or standard to fancy.

4) The option SWCursor fixes the problem, but then of course causes X to crash
when trying to access any of the OpenGL functions.

I'll be happy to provide any debugging information that may help fixating this
problem. I can also list the message numbers of my conversation with Felix,
if that'll help.

Thanks.
