The CVS policy is specified in
http://dri.sourceforge.net/doc/cvspolicy.txt but that's mostly for
branch management which you shouldn't have to worry for quite a while.

Commit frequently, unless you're working on something which breaks the
current code which should be done in chunks, so that the tree doesn't
get broken (this is a general advice, not much relevant now since the
driver isn't fully functional). 

If you're unsure of any changes you've made, get some feedback from the
list or me before commiting, to avoid cluttering the CVS log, and to
keep us current. I'll also keep following your commits by dri-cvs.

BTW, the first thing you need to do is checkout the tree again with your
login, as exemplified in the DRI SF project page.
