To me modules are either
- "distribution kernels" (either things like RedHat/SuSE, or just local MIS distrubutions)
- development (load a module, test, unload, fix, load again)
and make zero sense otherwise when you have full sources.
We also have our binary driver updates to think about. It's bad enough that we have to rebuild a kernel module on the user's system at install time. If we had to rebuild the whole kernel, people would pitch fits. :)
