Yes, the feature freeze has already been in effect since October.

The current .so drivers from DRI CVS should work with GATOS; the same
may even be true for the DRM, but I'm not sure.

If you base GATOS on the DRI tree after 4.4.0 is merged in, it should
work on top of stock 4.4.
