There's a lot of shared code but as Roland has discovered, there are differences between the hardware which aren't being exploited -- the r200 is in a lot of cases being treated like an r100, but could in fact do a lot more.
A refactoring of the drivers could eliminate a lot of code, but it's important not to go too far.
