At first glance the patch looks good.  I'll test it on my IX tomorrow.

does it work even if you are not using the bios for mode setting?  I
suspect it shouldn't matter since you are just [de]activating an
output, and not actually messing with the timing regs.  In which case,
it's safe just to leave it like it is.
