Well, for an unstable release then. (2.7?) :-) Since I'm submitting this up-upstream, and I don't particularly expect a major DRM merge into a stable release, I'm not surprised.although I'm sure debian are correct, I don't think this change is appropriate for a stable release, it adds extra user space requirements..
Let's try to get this right for the DRM development at any rate.
Oh, by the way, the ATI microcode doesn't seem to have a proper license to distribute, since it claims to be "from ATI" but has copyright notices only from Precision Insight. Unless ATI assigned copyright to Precision Insight, which I suppose is possible, this is just wrong.so I won't be applying it in its current form, I might try firmware loading and fall back to using the in-built microcode, it won't satisfy Debian but that's not my job :-)
Someone was going to talk to ATI about that; I don't know if they have.
