I didn't hear it from anywhere, but I assumed it would happen sooner or later. If the Xorg X server stays binary compatible with XFree, then that's great. I'm using the fglrx drivers on Xorg now, and while they work OK for 2D, 3D is not good. I have to disable xscreensaver otherwise my machine locks after half an hour. And I can't get more than 5 minutes out of UT2004 without texture corruption. But yes I realise I'm complaining to the wrong people about this.
