Try running Ben's radeonfb and see if it fails too. It should since
the i2c code is identical.

Next I would remove all i2c modules except i2c_core and i2c_algo_bit
and see if it will load.

Another posibility is that the monid port on your card is just broken,
but you never noticed since you don't have a monitor plugged in that
needs it.
