I had such a problem once too with a Savage4 AGP. A reboot fixed it. I
never found out what was wrong. :-/

Can you track down at which change it broke exactly (using cvs update
-D<date>)? Mailing list archives of dri-patches and mesa-cvs may be
helpful.

whatever you prefer. I might integrate it into the current driver one of
the next weekends.
