Well yes. For radeon and r200 drivers (and apparently savage), you need the freedesktop drm, since the one from the r300 driver is too old. For the r300 driver, you need the r300 drm, as the freedesktop does not contain the changes needed for this driver.



ok now I managed to compile r300_dri.so, and I have been trying to get xorg to pick it up. Does anyone have a working xorg.conf example, or can anyone tell me how to make mesa now use the r300 driver?

No special tinkering is required beyound recent Xorg CVS.

If you are still getting software rendering try doing this:

export LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose
glxinfo

In the beginning it will tell what it is doing trying to get direct rendering to work.

Maybe there is a permissions problem or something that will show up.
