I haven't played with merge-fb so I may not understand it right, but
doesn't it have a much larger impact for 3D rendering? With merged-fb
everything gets rendered once to a framebuffer than spans both
screens. With two independent screens you need to run everything
through the 3D pipe twice and use something like Chromium locally. Or
do the size limits on the merged framebuffer prevent this from
working? Of course if we want 3D to span multiple cards we still need
Chromium.

XGL is going to but a new twist on the Xinerama problem.
