Sorry, I should have said it only happens when running a 3D client. And it apparently needs to be more than just glxgears, which ran fine for a little while. neverputt would lock it up almost immediately.

IRQ 16 happens to be the irq being used by the radeon driver, of course :-)

Was it always shared with the USB controller? Can you try changing that?
The BIOS doesn't give me an option to change that. I can just disable the on-board USB controller, but I've always had it enabled, so I'm going to assume that they've always been at IRQ 16.
