Well, someone has updated the dri build instructions to reflect Xorg 7.0, whoever that was, thank you.
So nuked all the cruft due to the installation of xc, and reinstalled X from dapper debs, and everything is back to normal. Also, Mesa seems to build now; after its done, I'll build the drm kernel modules, and restart my computer to make sure fglrx isn't influencing this R300 dir cvs test in any way.
