Have a look at http://wiki.x.org/wiki/Development/git how to compile/install/run xorg/drm/mesa/xf86-video-ati from git sources. Then take your favorite OpenGL apps and watch out for errors. If you found some errors in git, compare it with dri from debian and perhaps with fglrx. If something works with debian/unstable but not git, you can bisect to find which patch caused a regression. And of course report any found bugs.
