We should probably break this into sub tasks: Ser and De. For high
performance, we'll prefer direct Storage Engine implementations. However, for
the broadest set of support, we need to allow people to use their existing Hive
SerDes. This also allows us greater coverage as we're progressing on other
direct storage engines.
