Hi Steven, So far, there are four sata framework-compliant hba drivers - marvell88sx, si3124, ahci and nv_sata in Solaris, but at the moment, only the ahci driver has already supported ATAPI CD/DVD devices, that is to say the ahci driver has implemented ATAPI command support. So in my opinion, it's easy to first try your sata tape with one AHCI controller, and perhaps it can work just only with minor change in sata module. I don't think there will be any major change (I expect no change)in the ahci hba driver in order to support sata tape . Moreover, the AHCI spec is public, and you can download it from Intel website, and also ICHx AHCI mother board is not expensive.
