Try a different system, if you can.

It might be something goofy happening at the PCIe bridge.

It might be an IOMMU or cache getting involved somewhere.

Problem solved! Actually "skirtted around" is a better description. :-)

I have moved to a more modern system (old - Dell Poweredge 1800, new - Dell Poweredge 2950).

I have changed OS from 2008.11 to the 111a build of 2009.06.

I am using the same card that would not work in the old box. In the new box, I now can read my 0xcafebeef register.

So I can move forward with my development.

Thank you everyone, you were a big help in this problem. I'm sure I will have new hurdles and issues to fix very shortly.

Since this battle was so painful, I want to make sure my problems are properly recorded. I was hoping I could get some advice from this list on where to post what.

I have an issue running with a Dell PowerEdge 1800. Where should I log this? I went to the OpenSolaris HCL and found an entry for the 1800. I can leave a comment there explaining my issue. But I don't see any comments anywhere else on that list.

When installing on an HP-DL160 with both OpenSolaris 2008.11 and the 111a build of 2009.06 I found that, though both OSes installed without issue, it hangs on boot -- making the box unusable.

After installing 111a on my new box, I am having some NFS administration issues that I wasn't having with 2008.11. I was thinking of posting my issues to nfs-discuss or sysadmin-discuss -- but maybe there is a forum for the beta build that would be more apropos?

Again, thanks for the help
