I am not totally happy with this approach. But it is the least bad of many
options.
It seems strange to have to duplicate the logic in the MultiThreadedTaskMaster
ThreadPool -- but the ThreadPool only has private access to the current threads.
Any other ideas on how to expose this kind of info?
