In dropwizard configuration for gzip 
(http://www.dropwizard.io/0.7.1/docs/manual/configuration.html), we used 
compressedMimeTypes: [application/json]
This would specify the types of responses you need to compress. As SSE uses 
mime type SseFeature.SERVER_SENT_EVENTS, they will not be compresses.
We are using Dropwizard version 1.0.5.
