Yes, for the moment this is the normal behaviour. In fact, when you
launch dscratch without -n option, dscratch will drive the Alsaplayer
session #0. If you launch Alsaplayer only with "alsaplayer",
Alsaplayer session is #0.
So now all is OK, dscratch is driving Alsaplayer.  You don't  play the
FS vinyl, so dscratch consider the current speed is 0 and therefore
volume is 0 too. You must play a FS record to check if dscratch really
works ;-)

I can't share a rip of FS vinyl, it's forbiden. But I can create a
timecode without any position management (not supported for the moment
in dscratch) in ogg format. Then you can play this timecode with an
audio player to simulate turntable+FS vinyl. I will give you the URL
later. Otherwise you can buy the FS vinyl in a record shop, for me it
was only 20€.
