Hello DSpace Developers, Per some discussion in yesterday's DevMtg [1], and based on ongoing discussions in the DSpace Entities Working Group [2], I would like to ask for your feedback on (likely) major enhancement to DSpace's data model in the near future.
Simply put, in order to better align DSpace with current needs of institutions (especially to better support identifiers and author/researcher profiles), we (in the DSpace Entities Working Group) have been analyzing ways to enhance the DSpace data model to support additional "entities" , namely Authors (but also potentially Organizations and Projects). This is a significant change, as it would be the first new data type added to DSpace since it began. *So, before we go much further with this effort, I'd really like to hear from *you*, the developers using / building / customizing / maintaining DSpace.* In order to attempt to give everyone an overview of the discussion, and an (hopefully) unbiased analysis of our main options, I've drafted up a public Google Doc. If you don't like using Google Docs, you are also welcome to add thoughts into this email thread.
