RE: moving the Wiki to Confluence...

DuraSpace is definitely looking to get the community involved in this
process -- an email should be going out shortly to ask for involvement.

Currently, the initial issue with moving the Wiki is whether we can
truly share the *same* Confluence as Fedora, yet still keep our
"wiki.dspace.org" address. We wouldn't want the DSpace Wiki to be under
a "fedora-commons.org" address, as that could be confusing to our DSpace
Community/Users. It may also mean some reorganization/restructuring of
the current Confluence Wiki will need to take place to support this.
This work is something that Brad is currently working on with another
DuraSpace staff member (Carissa).

When it comes time to actually test migrating content, the community
will definitely be informed about it, and will be encouraged to help
improve/test/cleanup the process. The first test migration will likely
happen in the next few weeks -- but, again, more official details will
be sent out soon.

I understand your desire to make this happen sooner since you have the
time now. But, there are other things worth keeping in mind:

* As I mentioned, the current Confluence Wiki may undergo restructuring
in order to allow for DSpace and Fedora to both use it without mixing
their contents. This restructuring could also affect the web addresses
or paths where your currently uploaded Documentation resides -- and we
definitely wouldn't want to encourage broader use of Confluence until we
have figured out how content will be organized within Confluence.

* Also, although again I appreciate your time spent helping with this
process, I think you've performed a "good enough" test and figured
things out well enough that we could make the change over to Confluence
at a later time (if we all deem it necessary). So, I'm hoping that
means we wouldn't need to use too much of your time in the future :)

* Finally, moving the primary documentation to Confluence would
obviously would first need to be brought to a vote before moving
forward. I'd prefer to wait on this vote till after 1.6.0 is tagged,
just because it will be less confusing for us all. However, that
doesn't mean we cannot have more discussion or testing of Confluence
now. I think a lot of great points have already been brought up, and
I'd encourage further discussion on this now.

Yes, I think labeling this as "Experimental" is best for now.
Obviously, you are welcome to use it as a tool to create documentation.
However, as the official Documentation is still in DocBook, that means
any changes need to make their way back into the DocBook files. So, you
would need to send any updates back to Jeff as well, in order to ensure
they make it into the official documentation.
