All,

I wanted to send out a note regarding our discussion in yesterday's
DSpace Services Framework Special Topic Mtg, for those who were unable
to attend.

Yesterday, Mark Diggory led us in discussion of the DSpace Services
Framework -- in particular, how it is used in 1.6.x and other areas we
could begin to use it in the future (1.7 and beyond). This discussion
was extremely informative (thanks Mark!), and I encourage everyone to
read through my Meeting Notes and the Full Transcript:

Also look at the main wiki page for this work:

The main resolution we all came to was the this work seems promising.
However, before officially voting on this as a future direction, I'd
like to give us all a few weeks to "dig in" further and make up our own
minds.

*Your Homework*

Over the next few weeks, I'd like *all committers* and interested,
active developers to take a closer look at the DSpace Services Framework
code and design.

In our Developer Meeting on *Wednesday, June 9,* I'd like us to try and
come to a consensus on a path forward regarding this DSpace Services
Framework. This doesn't have to be a simple "yes" or "no" answer. (For
example: If you find that you like most of it, but disapprove of a few
key areas, that's also perfectly fine -- just write up your thoughts in
an email or on the wiki).

I also encourage more public discussion (i.e. on dspace-devel) of this
DSpace Services Framework over the next few weeks as we all begin to dig
further into the code/concepts. As you learn, also feel free to help
improve on the wiki page/documentation for us all.

Please, ask questions, post your doubts/constructive criticism, and post
what you like/dislike. The more public we can make this discussion, the
better off we will be going forward.

Thanks all! I look forward to the discussion!
