Peter Dietz commented on DS-443: -------------------------------- There's two cases here: 1) The repository only contains metadata abstracts for some items (doesn't matter if you're logged in) - no bitstream 2) There is a bitstream, but only available to users who are member of a special group Claudia's solution, would solve case #2. So to solve #1 somewhat, I somewhat like how Google Books does it. http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en#q=hair+styles&tbs=bks:1 The user can alter their browse filter, which defaults to Any view > Any view Preview and full view Full view And for each item in the browse list, at the end of its title + metadata it has a little message that says: Full view, Preview, Snippet View, or No Preview. Or, another solution, that the screenshot indicates, to add a PDF icon to the browse list, when there is a bitstream available. I think that if you use a media filter that tries to create a thumbnail for all media types, you could show the thumbnail. In the case on non-visual-media-types, like an audio file, zip, or csv you could then just show the MIME-type icon. In the case of multiple bitstreams, it could be PDF + 5 more. Disclaimer: I am not a Usability Engineer. > Flag in search and browse results to indicate whether (accessible) bitstreams > are available for an item > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Key: DS-443 > URL: http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-443 > Project: DSpace 1.x > Issue Type: New Feature > Components: JSPUI, XMLUI > Affects Versions: 1.7.0 > Reporter: Bram Luyten (@mire) > Priority: Minor > Attachments: Picture 1.png > > > Many repositories contain metadata only items, or item's from which the full > text is not accessible. As some of these repositories have implemented > (minor) customizations to make it clear in the search and/or browse results, > whether bitstreams are available, (or sometimes even show the direct link to > the full-text on the search/browse results) it could be a useful feature of > the DSpace core. > An example: > http://repository.ubn.ru.nl/browse-title -- This message is automatically generated by JIRA. - If you think it was sent incorrectly contact one of the administrators: http://jira.dspace.org/jira/secure/Administrators.jspa - For more information on JIRA, see: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances and start using them to simplify application deployment and accelerate your shift to cloud computing. http://p.sf.net/sfu/novell-sfdev2dev _______________________________________________ Dspace-devel mailing list Dspace-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dspace-devel
