Replication Task Suite (New Backup & Restore Curation Tasks)
------------------------------------------------------------
Key: DS-876
URL: https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-876
Project: DSpace
Issue Type: New Feature
Components: DSpace API, XMLUI
Reporter: Tim Donohue
Assignee: Tim Donohue
Priority: Major
Fix For: 1.8.0
This issue is a placeholder for the Replication Task Suite, initially designed
and built by Richard Rodgers / MIT.
The primary goals of this project include:
* Provide an easy way to (via the Curation Admin UI), replicate DSpace AIPs to
external locations (filesystem, mounted drive, DuraCloud). Although this
project uses the term "replicate", it provides a full suite of backup & restore
tools including: backup AIP to external location, restore/recover from
externally stored AIP, audit/compare external AIP to internal DSpace contents,
etc. All of these tasks/tools are available via the Curation Admin UI.
* Provide an extensible replication framework, which can be built upon,
enhanced such that DSpace AIPs (of multiple formats or serializations) can be
replicated/backed up to other storage areas (once an appropriate object store
'plugin' is created in the replication framework).

This project is a collaboration between MIT (Richard Rodgers), DuraSpace (Tim
Donohue), and @mire (Mark Diggory) and is hoped to be officially released in
DSpace 1.8.0. Much of the initial code is "working" (thanks to Richard
Rodgers), but needs further testing and possible enhancements before it is
fully production-ready.
