Our custom built DSpace Authentication & Authorization codebases are starting
to "show their age", and cause various AuthN/AuthZ issues to pop up.
There are many other third party solutions which are more robust and more
"standardized" than what we currently have (e.g. Spring Security, JAAS).
Perhaps we should look into replacement with a third party option.
This is a placeholder ticket -- really meant to brainstorm possible options &
group together issues related to AuthN/AuthZ.
