(PR #14) and
DS-1660
(PR 10, 13) seem to handle this issue nicely. We're now able to configure what branch to check out, and otherwise tweak our development environment, to exactly match our preferences. Closing this issue.

* to specify which branch I want to use
* to auto-pull another repository and branch into my working copy (i.e. automatic Pull Request testing)
