After changing your Content Source harvesting settings, XMLUI offers an option to Reset and Reimport the collection. The log shows that the items are being deleted: 2013-12-21 10:53:48,153 INFO org.dspace.content.Item @ [email protected]:session_id=ECEA0AA81DDBE4620DAE6822CCAE1014:ip_addr=0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1%0:delete_item:item_id=7969 2013-12-21 10:53:48,188 INFO org.dspace.content.Collection @ [email protected]:session_id=ECEA0AA81DDBE4620DAE6822CCAE1014:ip_addr=0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1%0:remove_item:collection_id=3,item_id=7969 However, it then proceeds with a number of "failed" discovery updates: 2013-12-21 10:54:22,982 WARN org.dspace.discovery.IndexEventConsumer @ MODIFY event, could not get object for ITEM id=7969, perhaps it has been deleted. 2013-12-21 10:54:22,983 WARN org.dspace.discovery.IndexEventConsumer @ REMOVE event, could not get object for ITEM id=7969, perhaps it has been deleted. 2013-12-21 10:54:22,983 WARN org.dspace.discovery.IndexEventConsumer @ MODIFY event, could not get object for ITEM id=8016, perhaps it has been deleted. 2013-12-21 10:54:22,983 WARN org.dspace.discovery.IndexEventConsumer @ REMOVE event, could not get object for ITEM id=8016, perhaps it has been deleted. After these failed messages the process seems to halt. XMLUI page doesn't refresh and nothing else seems to happen. When going back to the homepage or other pages where discovery facets are shown, metadata from the deleted items is still shown. But the log is filled with messages like: 2013-12-21 10:57:19,611 ERROR org.dspace.discovery.SolrServiceImpl @ [email protected]:session_id=ECEA0AA81DDBE4620DAE6822CCAE1014:ip_addr=0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1%0:Error while retrieving DSpace object from discovery index:Handle\colon; 1911/21712 Without restarting tomcat, I tried: ./dspace index-discovery ./dspace index-discovery -b And clearing the cocoon cache from the UI. This doesn't seem to help, the assumed deleted metadata is still shown. To reproduce: - configure a collection to harvest from an external source - execute the initial harvest - change a setting in the content source dialog - save - click reset & reimport
