Hi Monika, that would be a commendable contribution. We started by scouting out several redistributable databases of content [1]. What's needed now is to harvest them and make them available (e.g. at GitHub, as you suggested) in DB+assetstore or AIP format for easy loading into DSpace. Harvesting could be as easy as running the OAI-PMH harvester in your development instance and pointing it to the remote repository.
